Salifu Jaiteh, leading exporter of second hand clothing and Managing Director of SK Jaiteh & Sons recently presented six bales of blankets for use by inmates at three of the country’s prisons, the Central Prisons Mile 2, Jeshwang and Janjangbureh Prisons.
The items are worth over D50, 000 and the gesture is part of a long-standing tradition by the Philanthropist to donate in humanitarian and emergency situations.
Over the years, SK Jaiteh & Sons extended similar gestures to hospitals and other causes.
As far back as the early 90s, SK Jaiteh & Sons were among the first Gambian private sector operators to come to the aid of the arriving Sierra Leonean refugees who were provided with clothes and bedding on their first night off the boat.
Last week, prison officials praised MrJaiteh and company for caring for the less unfortunate among the society. Mr Jaiteh humbly replied that he deserves no praises for performing his civic responsibility. ”One must always think of the needy and the unable,” Mr Jaiteh humbly noted.
