Ms Dougan informed high court judge, Simon Abi, that charges have finally been filed against the project coordinator and the acting finance and administrative manager of the Rural Finance Project of the Ministry of Agriculture.

However, the accused persons could not take their plea as defence lawyers, Lamin Camara and Borry Touray, said they were not served with the bill of indictment.

The two agric officials were first arraigned at the Banjul Magistrates Court on September 11 on one count of economic crime. They stand accused of issuing salary advances, unauthorised travel allowances, awarding contracts without due process on procurement, causing an economic loss of D965,905 and D707,327 to the country.

However, the case was transferred to the high court as the magistrates court lacked the jurisdiction to preside over the case. They all had pleaded not guilty.

The case will resume March 4 for plea taking.
