Mr Cherno Njie, a resident of Texas, was arraigned on Thursday at a US federal court in Minnesota. He was granted a conditional bail which will allow him to stay in a ‘transition house’.

The US federal courts in Minnesota and St. Paul, respectively, last week granted a similar bail to a retired US army sergeant, Papa Faal, and a US Special Forces operations specialist, Alhagie Saidy Barrow.

Faal, Barrow and Njie are all American-Gambian nationals. They allegedly launched an attack on the presidency on December 30 in an attempt to overthrow the government. Faal, who had pleaded guilty, confessed that he did travel down to The Gambia to take part in the attack. He revealed that Mr Njie was to be the interim leader had the attack succeeded.
