Sukuta gets new imam

By Lamin Cham

Following the passing last month of long reigned Imam Ismaila Baye, a new Imam has been installed in Sukuta. He is Sheikh Alhagie Omar Bojang. The new imam is a graduate of the University of Medina where he bagged a masters degree in Sharia and jurisprudence. He was endorsed by the chief, alkalo and traditional leaders of Sukuta who made the announcement last week. The new imam led his first congregation last Friday.

According to historian Mamakeh Bojang, the new imam who is about 70 years old, is a grandson of the late Foday Musa Sillah, a former imam who passed away in 1939 and was succeeded by Seringe Ababakar Baye, the father of Ismaila Baye.
