Speaking on behalf of the management of Swe-Gam marketing officer Mariama Jallow-Hydara said her company has been a long-term partner in development with the government of The Gambia through a series of similar donations in the past to some ministries, particularly to those of Health and Interior.
“Swe-Gam will offer training to the health ministry’s staff on the operation of the machines whenever it is required .This is our small contribution to the efforts of the Gambia government through the Ministry of Health in controlling the deadly Ebola virus. Since The Gambia is Ebola free, all efforts should be made to prevent it from entering the country. We pray to Allah to help those countries already affected to succeed in the fight against Ebola. The sprayers consist of a petrol driven engine and a pump unit which has chemical holding capacity of 25 liters. Since it is motorised, it can make disinfection faster and easy for the health staff. The sprayers are worth D160, 000 and they were procured through Swe-Gam business partner, Husqvarna AB of Sweden,” she said.
She described Ebola as global health threat to human lives especially those in hotspots affected by the virus, hence the need to t prevent the disease should be a national issue.
Speaking at a brief ceremony held at the conference hall of the Health ministry, Minister Omar Sey applauded the humanitarian gesture of Swe-Gam describing them as ‘friends of the ministry.’
Mr Sey said prevention and control of Ebola is everybody’s business while calling for more donations to keep Ebola at bay. He then urged others institutions and companies to emulate Swe-Gam in complementing the government’s efforts in the fight against Ebola.
“People should understand that Ebola is a major health problem,” he said, while assuring the donors that the donated materials will be put in to good use.
