One Philomena Jatta, a student at Fass Njaga Choi Senior Secondary School, yesterday testified at the Kanifing High Court against her Christian Religious Knowledge teacher who allegedly participated in trafficking her to Ghana.

According to the charge sheet, in July 2019, the teacher Jerome Jatta participated in trafficking Philomena by informing her family of an untrue story of a school trip to Ghana, which led her family to believe and allow her to be trafficked by one Emanuel Faye.

The accused is standing trial before Justice AT Osei, charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit felony and acting as an intermediary for trafficking.

During the cross-examination by the defence counsel, Philomena told the court that sometimes on Sundays after church, Jerome would visit her house for private tutorials.

She explained that he once informed her about the availability of a “school scholarship trip” to Ghana for which she must sit for an exam in Senegal.

She said when she informed her mother about the trip, she invited Jerome for discussions.

Jerome however, denied coaching Philomena on how to approach her mother about the trip.
