Team Gambia makes history at the 2026 World Federation of Acrobatic Dances and Dance Sports – African Championship in Dakar

Press release: The 2026 WFADS African Championship for Acrobatic Rock’n’Roll and Acro Swing, held at the Centre Culturel Régional Blaise Senghor in Dakar, marked a historic milestone for dance sport on the African continent. The groundbreaking event brought together athletes, coaches and officials from across Africa and Europe for the first-ever continental championship dedicated to this dynamic discipline.

Team Gambia delivered an outstanding performance at the championship, making history and placing the country firmly on the map of international dance sport.

Represented by Flex Fuzion Dance Academy, Team Gambia participated with a delegation of 15 dancers and two coaches.

In a historic achievement for the continent, The Gambia became the only African country to upgrade to the prestigious A-Class in Acrobatic Rock’n’Roll, with a Gambian couple earning the title and becoming the first-ever African champions in this category. This remarkable accomplishment represents a major breakthrough for African representation in the global Acrobatic Rock’n’Roll community.

Beyond this milestone, Team Gambia achieved several impressive results across multiple categories:
•           3rd and 4th place in Acrobatic Rock’n’Roll B-Class competition
•           4th and 5th place in Acro Swing competition
•           4th place in the Girls Formation category
•           3rd place in the Acro Swing Solo competition

In total, Team Gambia secured 11 trophies, highlighting the country’s growing strength and competitiveness in international dance sports.

The championship not only showcased extraordinary athleticism and artistry but also strengthened cultural exchange and collaboration within the international dance sport community.

With this historic performance, Team Gambia has set a new benchmark for African participation in Acrobatic Rock’n’Roll and Acro Swing, inspiring a new generation of young athletes to pursue excellence in dance sport.
