Today is BBC Africa debate

The BBC World Service’s flagship radio discussion program Africa Debate will be recorded from the Gambia today Thursday April 20.
The programme is a monthly one-hour discussion that examines topical African issues in detail and this month’s edition will be recorded at the Kairaba Beach Hotel this morning from 11 am.

The show will explore Gambia’s transition after more than 20 years of former President Yahya Jammeh’s rule. “We will look at what it takes to manage and reconstruct a country whose democratic institutions have been weakened or where they are non-existent, how to deal with human rights violations, etc. It will be aired on Friday April 21 in place of the third edition of Focus On Africa at 19 hours GMT to be relayed on West Coast Radio 92.1”

Among those expected to be on the panel are Dr Mohammed  Ibn Chambas, the UN  Envoy for West Africa and the Minister for information, Mr Demba Jawo among others.
A team from the BBC comprising producer Alice Muthengi, Rebecca Kesley, Hassan Arouni and Umaru Fofana are in town for the programme.
