Trial opens of man accused of raping 5-year-old girl

The criminal trial involving the State and one Saikou Bah commenced yesterday before Justice Ebrima Ba Jaiteh of the High Court in Banjul. Bah is alleged to have raped a five-year-old girl on the 8th June, 2021 at Sinchu Alagie in the West Coast Region.

In her testimony, first prosecution witness Sally said the incident happened one evening after her children returned from Dara and was watching TV.

The witness saw the victim chewing gum and when she asked her where she got the gum, she replied that the accused asked her to buy cigarette for him and when she returned with the cigarette, he raped her.

The witness told the court that she took the victim inside the house and inspected her and saw some sperm on her and she proceeded to wash her.

The witness further testified that she went to the accused but found that he locked himself inside his room.

She said after a while, the accused came to her room and went on bended knees and pleaded that she should forgive him that he only poured sperm on her.

The witness further revealed that she then reported the matter to one Kebba who instantly grew angry and escorted her in his car to report the matter to the police.
