Tug boat Kankujerry commissioned

A new tug boat, the Kankujerry, was commissioned yesterday by officials of the Gambia Ports Authority in Banjul.

The Tug boat is a modern seagoing twin screw for harbours and coastal waters.
It was commissioned by Alpha Barry, the chairman of the GPA board of directors.
The boat is a standard design built by Damen Shipyard in the Netherlands with a capacity of 47 tons bollard pull with an engine installation which consists of two caterpillar propulsion engines making a combined capacity of 3300hp.

The tug is also equipped with an external firefighting and salvage system, foam mixing system, oil pollution control system with dispersant pump and booms. It also has a towing winch with brake holding force of 125tons, a deck crane with lifting capacity of 0.8 tons at 10.36 and a fixed internal fighting system-central firefighting installation and a state of the earth navigation equipment and aids including the automatic identification system (AIS) and Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) for sea areas A1, A2 and A3.
