United Gambia Front (UGF) leader, and National Assembly Member for Foni Bintang, Bakary Badjie, has pledged to enforce a zero-tolerance policy on corruption if elected president in the 2026 elections, promising further that no public official, including members of his party or family, would be spared.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Badjie said tackling corruption would be one of his administration’s top priorities, arguing that the country’s resources belong to the Gambian people and must not be diverted for personal gain.
“My first step is to ensure that the audited reports are respected,” he said, explaining that audit findings submitted to the National Assembly would be acted upon through the Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC).,” Badjie declared.
The presidential aspirant said corruption and poor leadership have deprived many Gambians of opportunities to improve their lives, insisting that honest leadership is essential to restoring public confidence in government.
According to him, leadership should begin with integrity and accountability, adding that public office should never be treated as a business.
Badjie also announced that his campaign would embark on a nationwide “Listening Tour,” during which he plans to engage citizens across the country before unveiling detailed policy proposals. He said the initiative reflects his belief that leaders should first listen to the concerns of the people before making decisions that affect their lives.
