Press Release
The UK High Commissioner, Sharon Wardle, hosted an event on Thursday 21 February to mark the return of the 2018 Gambian recipients of UK Chevening Scholarships and to celebrate their academic achievements.
The scholars had all successfully completed their post-graduate studies in different UK universities, across a range of subjects, including Transport Planning and Management, Human Rights and Criminal Justice, Social Policy, Gender and Development, Economics and Finance – all sectors important to The Gambia and its development agenda. Each has clearly demonstrated excellence and leadership skills in their chosen fields and are now part of a global network of more than 50,000 Chevening Scholars, including an active Gambian Alumni network of more than 100.
Chevening is the UK Government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders through post-graduate study opportunities, and is fully-funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and partner organisations. The scheme offers a unique opportunity for future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers from all over the world to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK.
The window to apply for the Chevening Scholarships for the academic year 2020/2021 will open in the summer.
