By Tabora Bojang

Lamin Drammeh a veteran athlete who was awarded an Olympic Solidarity scholarship by the Gambia National Olympic Committee through the Gambia Athletics Association at South Carolina State  university , returned home to donate handsomely to the GAA.

Drammeh got the scholarship in preparation for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and since then he has perfected his athletics and academic career at colleges in the US and now earns a PhD. Drammeh is also currently the vice president for Strategic Initiatives and Executive Director of StillMan  Foundation and a founder member of the Africa Education Action Group.
Drammeh, who is currently in The Gambia on holiday, yesterday presented the GAA with 25 running spikes to support athletes.

He also pledged to continue supporting the GAA as a mark of gratitude and appreciation for all he has benefited from sports.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the President of the GAA and the GNOC Dodou Capy Joof recalled with satisfaction how Drammeh bagged the scholarship at the time which he said has proven to be a very good move.

“On behalf of the executive committee of the GAA, I extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Mr. Drammeh. He has demonstrated a good example of Gambia, and I hope that other former Gambian athletes in the USA and Europe will emulate this outstanding Gambian in support of our young Gambian athletes,” Mr Joof said with great delight.
