Whose title? Sukuta and BEM seek glory

It used to be fourteen, now it is down to only two – Sukuta and BEM. On Saturday they will enter the history books of this Super Nawettan as victor or vanquished. Sukuta won the title in 2005 and has put an almighty preparation to take just this one last gallop to the crown again. The town has the most fanciful fans in the tourney whose ululations can turn a player into a lion. Already, scores have hired cars to form convoys to the stadium. And at this stage the progress of the team has drawn the attention of the elderly and the diasporan Sukutarians who have begun to show interest and have developed close contact with team officials and players begging them to settle for nothing but the title.

Contrast that against the plan and hope the whole of Niuminkas and you are sure to have a thriller.
BEM’s steady rise in the tourney since being granted zonal status has been systematic, often settling at knock-out stages at a time. This year though, they have survived and progressed beyond all expectations and are not going to let this momentum go off easily. Being the final, of course the match on Saturday will equally attract neutrals meaning a packed stadium as the curtain is drawn on yet another Super Nawettan.
Meanwhile, the Organising Committee has said the third and fourth place games, scheduled for Saturday have been called-off.

SOC Chairman Lang Tombong Tamba said the decision is due to logistical problems. He said they are worried about playing the grand final into the night, considering the current power shortages.
Sukuta will face BEM on Saturday for the final at the Independence Stadium. Kick off: 4pm.
The sponsors FIBank will be at the field to present the trophy and prizes to the winners in the various categories.
