WILL GAMBIA GO TO THE INTERNATIONAL YOUTH CAMP?

According to our sources, suggestions have been made in many quarters that sending a group of over 100 youths across the border may not be a good idea in the wake of the now spreading Ebola virus which has ravaged some nations in the West African region.

Even though no confirmed or suspected case has been reported in that part of Senegal, it is widely believed that the authorities might be taking a second look at things.

The Standard yesterday contacted Pa Suwareh Faye, deputy director of planning at the Ministry of Youth and Sports MoYs who is the leader of the programme for confirmation.

He responded by stating that as far as he knows the plan to travel to Ziguinchor is still on course because there has not been any official directive cancelling it. “I am yet to be officially told or directed to abandon the trip,” he told The Standard.

The Gambia is expected to send youth campers from last year’s national youth camp to this international camp in southern Senegal.
