Writers’ Association of The Gambia to celebrate World Book and Copyright Day, 2019

The Writers Association of The Gambia (WAG) has received support from UNESCO through its Gambia national office NATCOM, to celebrate World Book and Copyright Day on April 23 2018. The theme this year is “The Gambian Writer and the Promotion of Human and Cultural Rights”.

Speakers have been invited to speak on this topic. Also, there will be an exhibition of books by Gambian authors and the launching of a writing competition for Gambian Senior Secondary Schools.
Other activities include Presentation of the UNESCO 2018 Global Report Re/Shaping Cultural Policies; and book reading sessions from Fyen network.

The celebrations shall target a large number of copyright owners, educationists, students, writers, publishers, cultural administrators and copyright administrators. These will be the participants as well as the beneficiaries of the outcome of the celebration. Members of the Writers Association of the Gambia shall feature prominently as panelists and participants.

The aims of the celebration include: To discuss the role of writers in the establishment and strengthening of human rights and fundamental freedoms values as espoused in the 2005 Convention; To build creativity among Gambian school children with the aim of creating the right scene for quality and relevant education through literature.
The writing and reading public is invited to attend on 23 April 2018.
