In the final Sunday, they beat Kunjo 1-0 in front of a large crowd at Sanjal village. It was Abdoulie Bah’s first half lone goal that wrote history, bringing into disfavour  a spirited fight put up by Kunjo.

The second half injected a fresh bout of hope among both camps but neither side could find the net allowing Yallal to cling on to their slender but vital lead.

As winners Yallal went home with 3,500 dalasi while Kunjo bagged 2,500 dalasi.

Yallal’s coach Ebrima Bah, in a post-match comment said: “I was confident about my side. Kunjo are a formidable team. But we had to play as a team with one objective and God answered prayers.”

Presenting the trophy, the National Assembly Member for Sabach Sanjal, Ousman Bah, who supported the tournament, said he was pleased with the way the final was handled by both the committee and the teams. He added: “I am happy to witness a violence-free final, and it didn’t surprise me, knowing the kind of people in my community. This tournament is just one of many we are going to stage in a short while and we expect more teams to participate.”
