3YJ enters no-case-to-answer submission

Lead defence counsel, Lamin S Camara yesterday made a no-case-to-answer submission on behalf of the executive members of the pressure group, 3 Years Jotna, charged with felony before Justice Babatunde Bakre of the High Court in Banjul Annexed.

LS Camara submitted that there is defence for the accused persons to enter, noting that the state had not established any case against them to warrant them to enter defence.

Lawyer Camara asked the court to acquit and discharge the accused persons, adding that the two witness testimonies called by the prosecution did not make out any case against the accused persons.

The defence entered their no-case-to-answer submission after the presiding Judge Bakre closed the prosecution’s case after the court observed that the state had failed to appear in court.

Justice Bakre however adjourned the matter to 12 January, 2020 for the state to respond to the defence submission.

The accused persons; Abdou Njie, Ebrima Kitim Jarju, Sherrifo Sonko, Hagi Suwaneh, Fanta Mballow, Karim Touray, Yankuba Daeboe, Bakary Camara and Matarr Ceesay are facing two counts of unlawful assembly and rioting after proclamation.
