The Saama Kairo Federation on Wednesday distributed 49,000 branded exercise books worth over D1.9 million to sponsored students across its intervention sites.
The presentation ceremony was held at the Saama Kairo Federation office in Brikama.
The donation is part of efforts to support learning and reduce the cost of educational materials for families.
Held under the theme “Investing in Today for a Better Tomorrow,” the Federation described education support as central to its community development activities.
Board Member Ebrima Hamad Njie said the organisation remains committed to supporting students and communities.
“Providing learning materials is important in helping students meet some of the basic requirements needed for effective participation in school,” Njie said.
Federation Manager Sunkaru Jatta said the books will enable students to practise lessons, record their work and develop learning skills.
“The initiative was intended to provide practical support to students while complementing efforts by parents and communities to meet education-related needs,” Jatta said.
West Coast Region NGO Affairs Officer Adam Jallow said the donation will ease financial pressure on parents.
“Access to basic learning materials is important for students to participate fully in classroom activities,” she said.
Principal Education Officer for Region Two West, Ebrima Darboe, commended Saama Kairo for its continued contribution to education.
“Support from community-based organisations and development partners remains important in complementing government efforts to improve the learning environment,” Darboe said.
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Blaise Gomez thanked the Federation.
“This support will go a long way in enhancing learning and improving attendance and easing the burden on parents,” Gomez said.
Saama Kairo Federation reaffirmed its commitment to initiatives that assist students and strengthen communities.
