As the December presidential election approaches, United Democratic Party leader Ousainu Darboe and a delegation of party officials have travelled to the United Kingdom for a fundraising event.
The visit is also expected to provide an opportunity for the UDP leadership to engage with Gambians in the diaspora and discuss the party’s preparations for the presidential election.
Speaking ahead of the trip, Darboe said the visit was aimed at engaging UDP supporters in the diaspora, including elders who are unable to attend the party’s rallies and other political activities in The Gambia.
The UDP leader said he expected strong support from the party’s diaspora supporters, whom he described as among its most passionate supporters.
He said the supporters are prepared to contribute financially to the party’s activities and expressed his hope that they would raise more funds than they did last year.
“This is the election convention, and our supporters are determined that the UDP is very well resourced as far as the presidential election is concerned,” Darboe said.
