The Alkalo of Sinchu Alhagi village in Kombo North, West Coast Region, Salifu Ceesay, has called on Gambians and natives of his village to honour their tax obligations by complying with tax laws and regulations.

“Tax is an old age initiation that helps many governments to run their governance systems. I want to call on my people to nurture the culture of paying their taxes that will make this country move forward,” he told The Standard.

The Alkalo said the significance attached to complying with tax laws cannot be overemphasised, adding that without regular taxpaying there will be no meaningful development in The Gambia.

He said regular taxpaying can help the country achieve its development aspirations.
“It is evident that if we don’t pay our taxes it will be very difficult for government to run their daily activities or even pay salaries for civil servants and maintain security,” he said.
