Appeal to Gambian youths

It is amazing to see that the youths of this country are getting caught in the crossfire of some Western countries whose only interest is in pillaging the nation’s assets. These Western countries have little or no interest in their well-being. However, whether such argument holds water or not will be seen in the not-so-distant future. It is rather unbelievable to see that some of our youths indulge in the notion that their fate is tied to the West’s assertion of its hegemony in the world and The Gambia in particular. I also find it difficult to believe that some fulfilled individuals of this country dream of influencing the youths in this direction. Believe it or not, I think the tide will change sooner rather than later and any attempt by dishonest citizens who are bent on deceiving our youths will be discontinued. But I must appeal to our youths to put the interest of our country first. This is because it has often been said anyone who thinks of serving outsiders’ interest as against his country’s interest will surely get his or her comeuppance. Except that the person does not learn from history. I do not doubt the reality of the fact that Gambian youths are passionate about their country but they have to do more not to be misled by ill-wishers. I am sure the youths definitely know that it is high time that they gave more attention to the development of our country.

Dear editor,

I was immensely filled with satisfaction when President Jammeh on Friday spoke so passionately about our country and its ability to prevail even in the face of evil. The president who was speaking to the nation during a solidarity march by members of the armed and security forces of the country was also categorical in putting the fate of the country in the hands of Allah, the Almighty. The president could not have been more right when he said: “I thank the Almighty Allah for giving me a country and a people that worship only Him. 99.99 percent of the Gambian population worships the Almighty Allah. Allah-fearing people and that include you the armed and security services of this country. Whether you are in uniform or not, 99.99 percent of the Gambian people are God-fearing patriotic citizens who are ready to die to defend this country. It is this virtue of Gambians to live and serve only the Almighty Allah and live decently for Allah to be their friend and to develop their country in dignity, peace and stability that every patriotic Gambian is ready to die for this country. Let me warn those countries that think they are powers. They may be evil powers but The Gambia is a righteous power protected by God. We will prevail by the grace of the Almighty Allah. All forces of evil that have bad intentions towards The Gambia will perish.”The president’s words are underpinned by faith and resting one’s case in the hands of Allah, the Almighty. Success, both in this world and the hereafter can only be achieved through being fearful of Allah and to be among the truthful. For God said in the Quran: “By time! Verily, man is in loss. Except for those who believe, do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth and recommend one another to patience.”  There are those who may not be entirely convinced in taking such a path but any such thing will highlight their lack of understanding.
