The 22nd edition of the annual event took place from 7 – 12 Nov 2014, in Dakar, attended by delegates from eleven different countries. The opening was presided over by His Excellency President Macky Sall, represented by Culture Minister Mbagnick Ndaiye. The week-long occasion had a variety of programmes, chief of which were a symposium, an interactive session of writers and a production on the ancient Mali Empire. It was Kurugan Fuga, Sundiata Keita’s human rights charter declared back in 1222. Fittingly, the author whose research led to that discovery, Professor Djibril Tamsir Niane, was in attendance as chief guest of the conference. The Gambian delegate, Musa Jallow, was particularly glad rubbing shoulders with someone whose book he had read as a teenager, back at Armitage. Over all, it was an intellectual occasion from which everyone emerged with good returns.
