In his opening remarks, Chairman Drammeh said the visit was meant to “create a positive bond between them and the staff, as well as forge a healthy relationship among all Gambians in the USA, who are willing to be partners for a Greater Gambia”.

A dispatch sent to this paper by the embassy stated: “Fundamental in the sentiments expressed by the attendees was their appreciation of the archetypical leadership of His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh, President of the Republic of The Gambia. To them The Gambia under the leadership of President Jammeh has come a long way through a transformative reformation indicative of a very modern and well-respected country. For that reason, they sincerely pledged their continual support for the regime’s fortitude to keep the monumental achievements of which they are proudly identified with in every way imaginable. Instead of asking for what the mission could do for them, they in general emphatically vowed to offer their assistance whenever and wherever necessary because of their faith in The Gambia under its great leadership. All other speakers from various states echoed similar sentiments as well, and shared their past and present activities and the way forward in achieving their goals.

“In response, the chargé d’affaires thanked them for their excellent initiative. He firmly assured them of the government’s steadfastness to provide those essential services central to the success and well-being of all progressive Gambians, be they at home or abroad. They were further assured that their message will be forwarded to [President Yahya Jammeh], whose desire to work with fellow citizens and friends like them has always been his underlying conviction. We also conveyed to all of them that the mission largely belongs to them, to which they are always welcome to contribute any new ideas deemed important for its betterment.”
