Musa Amul Nyassi, Spokesperson of the opposition Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) has said that President Adama Barrow is the architect of his own problems because the task given to him by the Coalition manifesto was to focus on reforms and stop there.
“His task is totally different from a president who may be thinking of how to grow his party support.
But his (Barrow’s) political ambitions made his work very difficult for him and his administration. So he is the cause of his own troubles,” Nyassi told Star FM’s Pa Nderry Touray yesterday.
He added: “If Barrow had followed the guidelines and principles that brought him to power things would have been different.”
Nyassi also admitted that if Barrow forms a political party he may take a significant number from the APRC but that will not shake the party’s strong base.
He assured APRC supporters that the party leadership will not under any circumstances surrender the party to President Barrow or any other political party.
Nyassi said although they have no intention of writing to the IGP for a permit to celebrate July 22 anniversary, “they will celebrate the day through recitation of the Qur’an to pray for former President Jammeh and the Gambian people.”
Nyassi said the young people of the party will also hold a symposium with their fellow young people to remind them where Jammeh found Gambia and where he was able to take the country in his 22-year rule.
He said the APRC is growing very strong by the day contrary to what their critics may suggest.
“President Barrow is sending his people to Foni to canvas for support but I can assure you that Foni is 100% behind the APRC and they will never join Barrow,” he added.
Nyassi also denied suggestions that Jammeh is dictating things at the APRC, saying they only inform him about decisions when they made them.
“Fabakary Tombong Jatta is talking to Jammeh always and once awhile he does give his advice and Gambians should be grateful that whenever Jammeh spoke to Tombong he will ask him to tell the party supporters to maintain discipline,” he stressed.
Asked about Jammeh’s much rumoured return, Nyassi replied: “Jammeh is a Gambian and he never changed his citizenship to another country.
And if his return is really important to the party we may put that on the table for any future negotiations for Alliance with any other party.”
On the seized assets of Jammeh, Nyassi said they are still engaging President Barrow over their frozen accounts.
The TRRC, he added, will not in any way shake the APRC especially when the Barrow government is repeating the same mistakes they are accusing the former government of.
