Lamin Marong, the CEO of Stanfest Promotion said: “Miss Nawettan aims to create funds for the smooth running of Nawettan in Bakau. Last year, part of the proceeds generated from the pageant was used to sponsor the knockout. This year, our plan is to improve the condition of the football park.
“Twenty-seven teams are contesting in this competition, the male and female categories included. Once a team brings in a contestant for the miss, another team will bring a man to juggle. There is a price for both.”
He urged the youths of Bakau to emulate what Stanfest has started.
Marong added: “The first edition last year was held at African Village Hotel. This year, we are moving to the Independence Stadium, at the pool side, to attract more crowd. We are aiming to sponsor the knockout with different prizes. The theme for last year’s competition was “stop violence in sports”. It is wise to sensitise people that football is all about win and lose. If you win you celebrate if you lose, you could relax your mind and celebrate it with your opponent. Last year, Bakau played the whole Nawettan without any problem. This year too Bakau is playing the nawettan without any problem. Stanfest is not only about the miss competition. We are coming up with a different thing as the objective of the group is to promote Gambian music and culture.”
