Beakanyang receives human rights educational materials from US

Youth for Human Rights International, USA through Youth for Human Rights The Gambia, has donated over 2000 copies of human rights booklets, about 20 manuals, CDs, posters, caps, t-shirts, brochures and banners to Beakanyang.

The booklets will be donated to human rights clubs of Nusrat Senior Secondary (KM), Masroor (WCR), Gambia High (Banjul), Talinding Annex (KM), Nyakoi (URR), Nasir (URR), Armitage High School (CRR) and Soma Lower Basic School in (LRR).
The information was disclosed by the executive director of Beakanyang and coordinator of Youth for Human Rights The Gambia, Nfamara Jawneh.

He made the disclosure on Wednesday 6 December 2017 at Masroor Senior Secondary school human rights club launching in Old Yundum.

Mr Jawneh further disclosed that the support from their partners was very timely and important, noting that if they are to buy the booklets alone it will cost his office about D170,000 while the total cost for all the materials is D250,000. “We are very grateful to YHRI under the leadership of Mr Ruslan Khusainov, Executive Director for his continuous support,” he said.

According to him, the creation of the club and seven others was sponsored by the US Embassy in Banjul. He commended the US mission in Banjul for its commitment in promoting human rights education in the country.
With this support, thousands of Gambian children and youth will learn and know more about their fundamental human rights.
