China to build Basse-Fatoto – Koina roads, two bridges

A team of visiting Chinese technical experts left for Basse to conduct feasibility studies for the construction of the Basse-Fatoto – Koina roads, a statement from the Ministry of Works said yesterday.
According to the statement, the team will also conduct feasibility on the building of two bridges at the Basse-Wulli and Fatoto-Passamass crossings.

The technical team was received by the Minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, Bai Lamin Jobe, on Monday in his office. The team was led by the Chinese Ambassador to The Gambia, Mr Zhang Jiming.
The meeting was also attended by officials of the Chinese Embassy, the Ministry of Transport, Works & Infrastructure, the National Roads Authority, and China Communications Construction Company consultants .

The Chinese ambassador informed the meeting that this project comes on the heels of the International Conference Centre project which has already begun in earnest, and is “another manifestation of the recognition of China of The Gambia’s development aspiration”.

He intimated that the outcome of the feasibility studies, including survey and design, will determine the type of road, its related cost and all the specifications for the construction of the projects.
A memorandum of understanding, based on the outcome of the feasibility, will be generated and signed by the two governments for the implementation to proceed.
