The Chief of Defence Staff of the Gambia Armed Forces, General Masanneh Kinteh on Friday gave a three-mont notice to the civilians living at Hamza Barracks to vacate, the Army PRO Malick Sanyang has confirmed to The Standard yesterday.
PRO Sanyang said the CDS visited Hamza Barracks last Friday to inform them about it because it is a military installation.
Asked whether the soldiers stationed at the barracks have also been given notice to leave as widely reported, PRO Sanyang said: “It should be understood that the armed forces is a functional institution and it deserves the right to rotate its members.
“During the visit, the Chief of Defence Staff also reassured the soldiers stationed there that no orders have been made for them to relocate,” he said.
Hamza Barracks was created by the exiled former Gambian president.
