A court in Brikama has ordered the prosecution to take Ousainou Jarju, a murder suspect to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital for age determination before the next adjournment date.
Ousainou Jarju is accused of stabbing Malick Bojang with a knife in his stomach at Lamin CDC causing his death.
Jarju, a resident of Lamin, pleaded not guilty to the single count of murder.
The charge read that Ousainou Jarju on or about the 22 August 2021, at Lamin CDC Kombo North in the West Coast Region, with malice aforethought caused the death of Malick Bojang by stabbing him with a knife in his stomach.
Speaking in court, the accused person who was unrepresented, said he is 17 years old, a minor under the laws of The Gambia.
Replying, police prosecuting officer ASP Buteh Sawaneh objected, saying that the accused is an adult. In his ruling, the trial magistrate Peter Che ordered the prosecution to take the accused person to EFSTH in Banjul for age determination before the next adjournment date. The matter was then adjourned to 16 September.
