The Diaspora Club, a group of Gambians based in the USA and Europe is back in town with a multitude of end-of year programmes ranging from sports to philanthropic activities. First on their menu is the opening of the paediatrics ward sponsored by the group at the EFSTH on December 26. This will be followed on December 27 by the official honoring of Gambia’s football legend Biri Biri Njie who the group strongly advocate should have the Independence Stadium renamed after him. This event is expected to attract a gallery of sport personalities including Biri’s contemporaries and fellow legends and veterans. The Diaspora Club will then move to the Officers Mess on December 28 to stage the Sabar, a cultural display of dance and drumming common to many cultures of The Gambia. The Club then moves to stage a fund raising event with Assan Ndiaye from December 31 to 2nd January in the form of a dance at Penchami Hall and Brikama Jokor.]]>
