As part of activities touring major hospitals in the Greater Banjul Area, medical officers from various facilities are lodging complaints to the Select Committee on Health, Women, Children, Disaster, Refugees and Humanitarian Relief of the National Assembly regarding the disposal of hospital waste as a major concern to all.

Kebba Manneh, chief executive officer at Serekunda General Hospital, noted that there is a problem of waste management especially medical wastage as hospitals battle to contain it.
He said hospitals form an association and they are working with the health ministry to see how best they can come up with plans to manage waste.

“We intend to have those waste management plans so that medical waste can be effectively managed because medical waste definitely requires very good treatment. We are working hand and glove with the Ministry of Health to see how best we can tap that Green Climate Fund to be able to establish medical waste treatment plants in the country,” he stated.
For his part, Ebou Corr, officer-in-charge at the Faji Kunda Health Centre also raised concern on waste disposal at the hospital.
