The Ecowas West Africa Health Organization Thursday donated consignments of medical items to the Ministry of Health to assist the country in its fight against Covid-19.
The donated items include ten thousand tablets of Chloroquine phosphate 250mg, one thousand testskits, Azithromycin 250mg of 80 packs by 10×6 capsules- 4,800 capsules, 400 PPE Kits, 3,000 viral and transport medium VTM.
Speaking at the presentation held at the Kotu Medical Store, Claude Kondor, political adviser to the resident Ecowas representative said the donation among many others is given to Ecowas member states to support them fight against the corona pandemic.
“As we speak, there is no country that has not experienced the effects of the virus directly or indirectly. Therefore, it is our responsibility to ensure that our member states remain safe. It is in this light that we take up the initiative to come up with some package of medical support,” he said.
The deputy permanent secretary, Ministry of Health, Karamba Keita who doubles as focal person for WAHO in the Gambia, extended government’s sincere gratitude to Ecowas and WAHO for the gesture.
“The donation could not have come at a better time.the donated items are highly needed considering the current situation of the continent,” he added.
