Madam Jammeh on Thursday made a conducted tour of the facilities at the country’s main referral hospital, and was greeted with a mixture of tears and smiles from patients.

She was accompanied by minister for Basic and Secondary Education, Fatou Lamin Faye, as well as officials from the Ministry of Health, including the permanent secretary, Dr Macky Taal.

“The first Lady has done a lot of positive things for this hospital,” the permanent secretary, Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Mackie Taal said.

He added: “She has donated a lot of cash, equipment and her visit is a boost for the hospital and its staff, the patients as well and the staff of the ministry. We were extremely pleased once again to have her in this hospital.”

This was not the first time that Zineb has paid such visit to EFSTH. This latest tour took her to various wards at the hospital, including the obstetrics, gynaecology and maternity where she came in contact with the conditions at the hospital.

She has promised to give support in the form of medical equipment to the hospitals. “

“I would transmit your message,” Madam Jammeh said.

Meanwhile, Minister Fatou Lamin Faye hailed the First Lady for her proactive stance, especially on the health of women and children. “She is very concerned about the wellbeing of not only the women she met, but the general health condition of everyone in this country,” she added.

The Chief Medical Director, Dr Ammar Al-Jafari, applauded the First Lady’s generosity saying: “We always get a lot of support from the First Lady and her foundation ‘Operation Save the Children’.
