Sarata Jadama, a young girl from Baddibu Juman Sarr Baa in the North Bank Region caught fire in the rice fields on Tuesday evening during an unsupervised burning.
Sarata caught fire when she started to burn dry grasses she gathered in her field. After lighting the grasses, the flame was uncontrollable and it went further to burn Chief Ebrima Jammeh’s empty plot of land and the women’s garden.

Karamo Saho, a youth leader, said the fire has also damaged some rice.
“I rushed there in order to put off the fire but to no avail for it had already spread out of control and none was present to assist the girl except me,” he said. “This is the fourth time such is happening.”
