According to Sports View The Gambia’s only exclusive sports paper, the young players were due in Eqypt last week to seek places for the Botswana tournament, but could not travel ‘because of the problem affecting Gambian Olympics. In addition according to the paper, a planned Olympafrica Futbonet regional Cup, in Banjul from April 26-27, has also been called off for the same reasons.

Yesterday The Standard contacted credible sources close to the table tennis association who confirmed that their trip to the qualifiers had been cancelled but they would not give any further details. Nearly two weeks ago, personnel of the Police Intervention Unit of the Gambia Police Force moved in and closed the Olympic House to the executive committee members of the GNOC who have been using it as their offices. No explanations have been given by the authorities from either the Ministry of Youth and Sports or the GNOC over the matter. The two have been locked up in differences over matters dealing with Gambian sports.
