Faye who officiated at African Junior and Nations Cup finals said he was urging every commentator to be ready for the very first time Papa will enter the field with the Fifa World Cup ball in his hands. “At that moment, everyone should shout: “A record is broken!”Faye said. 

Alhagie Faye was himself in the reserve list of World Cup referees from Africa at the 1994 World Cup but he said The Gambia will break the records if Papa enters the field to officiate. “I am profoundly delighted as a Gambian to see this lad  gain this height of recognition,” he concluded


Gassama, one among three Africans to officiate at the World Cup has left the country for Brazil after he was given a fitting farewell by President Jammeh and the Gambia Football Federation officials.
