The Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) announced Saturday that it has expelled Musa Bachilly, the party’s Foreign Affairs Secretary, with immediate effect.

No reasons were given for his expulsion, but a statement from the party said Bachilly is barred from taking part in all GDC activities, programs and functions.
“It is true that he (Musa Bachilly) is expelled from the party,” Momodou M5 Jallow, GDC’s spokesperson told The Standard.

However, Bachilly told journalists over the weekend that he was never expelled and that he was the one who resigned from the party since May 13 and that his resignation was strictly based on integrity.
“The GDC administration is not in order, they are cracking and their particles are falling down,” he said adding, “They are incompetent. I stepped down voluntarily and my resignation was not distaste for the party but I decided to resign because of the incompetence of the administration.”

But according GDC spokesman M5, the party has made a decision not to make public the reasons for Bachilly’s expulsion, however his resignation claims is false. “He was with us until June. He attended the last press conference the GDC held on June 6 and he collected money from the party on the 1st of June. So he could not have resigned on the 13,” M5 Jallow said.

He challenged Mr Batchilly to share his resignation letter if there is any, sent to the GDC with the media. “We at the GDC never got a resignation letter from him,” M5 concluded.
