Jolas suffered the most under Jammeh

Imam Baba Leigh, the outspoken Imam of Kanifing East Central Mosque has used his Eid congregation sermon to call on Gambians not to stereotype any tribe just because of former President Yahya Jammeh’s misdeeds.

According to him, the Jola tribe is a noble tribe of very good and decent people and they should not be stereotyped just because of the ‘rotten potato’ among them called Yahya Jammeh.
“I think Jammeh in fact brought more havoc to his own tribe than any other tribe and so he should be seen as the only one of his kind representing no body or tribe,” the Imam said.

Imam Leigh further said Gambians should be grateful to Allah for the great change that took place here and be patient with the new government, saying ‘we should not expect magic within six months’.
He said when Jammeh was in power, all the so called degree holders were nowhere to be seen but President Barrow put his life on the line to challenge him and today, everyone wants to take credit for that achievement.

Leigh said although everyone contributed to the change possible by voting for Barrow but he must be commended for being courageous and bold to challenge Jammeh to enable this big change.
He thanked all Gambians for joining efforts in kicking the monster out and restoring democracy in the Smiling Coast.

“Yahya Jammeh was removed by all Gambians – those in the Diaspora and especially those in the country because they voted,” he said.
