The Standard has been reliably informed that the former commander of the Republican National Guards, General Saul Badjie, Major Landing Tamba and Warrant Officer 1 Musa Badjie will appear in court on Monday.

The trio, who returned from exile in Equatorial Guinea two weeks ago, are reportedly charged with the murder of veteran journalist, Deyda Hydara, the arson attack on the defunct Independent Newspaper, participating in former president Yahya Jammeh’s witch-hunt, the killing of two US citizens among others.

The three were recently arrested and interrogated, charged and later detained at the Mile 2 Central Prisons in Banjul.

Yesterday, senior security sources confirmed to The Standard that they will now appear in court on Monday.

“I can confirm to you that Gen Badjie and the two other suspects have been served with court orders and they are expected to appear in court on Monday,” our source said.

Gen Saul Badjie and the others, who returned from Equatorial Guinea, were taken into custody at the Independence Stadium Friendship Hotel after they arrived in the country two weeks ago. They were later taken through a screening process by a panel composed of representatives from all the security forces in the country.

When contacted for comments, the GAF spokesman Captain Malick Sanyang, said: “I can confirm to you that the matter is now at the level of the Ministry of Justice and the armed forces will not want to comment on anything happening at that level.”
