The Gambia Football Federation GFF on Tuesday announced it will give a preliminary D250, 000 each to the Gambia Armed Force GAF and Hawks ahead of their respective Caf competitions the Champions League and the Confederations Cup.
However the GFF President Lamin Kaba Bajo who met officials of both teams disclosed that there will be no other free lunch for the teams unless they reach the next stage of their qualifiers when the GFF will give them another D250.000 each. In addition Mr Bajo went on, the GFF will take charge of each of the team’s local accommodation at the Football Hotel in Yundum on full board and will as well finance the indemnities of the match Officials during the home legs.
The GAF FC as League champions will face Zanaco FC of Zambia while FF Cup Winners Hawks FC takes on Akwa United of Nigeria. The first legs of the teams’ preliminary stages will be in February with both teams playing away before the return legs at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
Officials of GAF and Hawks thanked the GFF for such a magnanimous contribution and described the gesture as unprecedented. They both promised to do well in the various championships as they continue to prepare well ahead of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
