UDP’s National Assembly member for Tallinding, Fatoumata Jawara is continuing her testimony at the trial of 9 NIA officers.
She told the Banjul High Court that she had constant genital bleeding for more than three (3) months, after the torture she suffered at the NIA.
“I also bled from injuries in other parts of my body and while some scars have disappeared others remain until this day,” Hon. Jawara told the court.
She further narrated that after the torture, she fell unconscious and when she opened her eyes, she saw Nogoi Njie, Fatou Camara and also noticed the presence of Dr. Lamin Sanyang, NIA doctor, Fatou Darboe, a nurse, and one Sariba, a student. She further stated that both Fatou Darboe and Sariba were female assistants to Dr. Lamin Sanyang.
“I spent 9 days at the NIA hospital before being moved to a cell by one James, a security attached to the NIA gate despite my continuous bleeding.”
She further stated the cause of her bleeding was not investigated during her detention at the NIA, adding that when she was released from hospital she was in a wheelchair. She said she was always assisted anytime she wanted to take bath because she could not walk, saying, “my legs were swollen, I was unable to walk.”
