Koina caste dispute set for hearing today

A highly sensitive case is coming at the Janjangbureh court this morning.

About two dozen villagers from Koina will appear in court to hear charges arising from the highly sensitive caste conflict affecting communities in the region.

They were charged with both assault and arson.

On the charge of assault, the following villagers Abdoul Gumaneh, Saikou Gumaneh, Mamadou Lamin Gumaneh, Binta Gumaneh, Ousman Gumaneh, Bangally Gumaneh,Hagie Jabbi, Bakoreh Gumaneh, Ebrima Gumaneh, Musa Kanuteh, Bangally Jawara, Essa Jarra, Dawda Gumbally, Essa Gumbally, Dawda Touray, Bangally Kanuteh, Bakary Jawara, Muhammed Sanneh, Karamba Sissoho, Jariga Camara, Marie Kanuteh and Musa Kumba Kanuteh are charged with causing actual bodily harm.

The individuals are accused of unlawfully and willfully assaulting Saikou Gumaneh, Kalilou Touray, Momodou Samura, Omar Samura, Ebrima Sissoho, Ismaila Touray, Ebrima Juwara, Essa Fofana, Sambala Conteh, Lamin Gumbally, Bangally Touray, Jongfolo Camara, Essa Touray, Mariatou Suko, Momodou Sanneh, Dado Camara, Jariatou Sanyang, Muhammed Sanyang and Momodou Sanneh on their heads, faces, legs by stoning and hitting them with sticks, thereby causing them actual bodily harm.

As for the charge of arson the 22 suspects are accused of willfully setting fire to the houses of Mamodou Sanneh, Dado Camara, Jariatou Sanyang, Muhammed Sanyang and Muhammed Sanneh .

The case is expected to be heard by Justice Ebrima Jaiteh of the High Court.
