Lightning kills 1, injures 8 others

A young girl, Amie Bojang, died while eight others of her siblings were injured Wednesday when they were struck by lightening in Mamuda Village, Kombo South.
Amie was a grade 8 student at Dankunku Upper Basic School who came to her family for holiday.
Speaking to The Standard, Ebrima Njie, father of the victim said the fatal incident happened around 2pm last Wednesday as the children were coming from the farm.

“Amie Njie, her sister and schoolmate Rukiatou Njie, were the ones hit hardest and they were rushed to Sanyang health center from where they proceeded to Banjul where Amie was pronounced dead and Rukiatou hospitalised. The other seven girls luckily escaped and ran back home after the incident. All but one of them are my daughters,” a distressed father said.

The body of the late Amie Njie was later released to the family for burial.
In a separate development, one Yahya Mboge died at the Bamba Tenda- Yeli Tenda Ferry Crossing when their pirogue was said to have been hit by the ferry just before landing at Bamba Tenda.
According to sources, his body was recovered the same day and was laid to rest in Farafenni.
