“I recuse myself for personal reasons relating to my familiarity with the second accused person and prior knowledge of the facts of the matter, which may prejudice my mind,” Magistrate Jallow said.

The accused persons, Muhammed Sillah and Nfansu Marenah, are on trial at the Banjul court on three counts of possession of prohibited drugs, conspiracy to commit an offence and dealing in prohibited drugs.

They were found in the possession of 42kg 880g of Cannabis sativa in Basse, Upper River Region in 2009 according to the prosecutors. They are further accused of dealing in cannabis. They were arraigned in 2010 before Justice Emmanuel Nkea. Three years on, only two witnesses have testified for the prosecution so far.
