Mr Bright, a Gambian, is charged with four counts of rape, abduction defilement of girls under 18 years and indecent assault on female.
Prosecutors accused him of unlawfully having carnal knowledge with five girls (name withheld) who are all minors. He is also accused of detaining the girls against their will before having carnal knowledge with them. According to the prosecutors, the alleged rape took place between August and September in Banjul and diverse places.
However, the accused could not take his plea. The presiding magistrate transferred the case to the Special Criminal Division of the high court after the prosecutor, Ms Jobe said only the high court has the proper jurisdiction to hear the case. Meanwhile, the court has ordered that the accused be remanded pending his appearance at the high court.
