Mayor Colley was speaking on Saturday, at the Serekunda East Nawettan league final between Talinding’s Milan FC and Blue Stars of Wellingara, which was eventually won by the Wellingara boys 4-3 on penalties.
“I know the(GFF) has many things in store, but am appealing to them to critically look into the nawettans and the zonal football competitions as a good instrument for the attainment of development in the game here in The Gambia.”
He went on: “Both competitions create lots of ambience and generate funds for the respective zones and teams as well as motivate young players to continue playing football as a profession. If this trend continues, everyone will soon thinking of owning a team and football will grow” .
