The Gambia Navy over the weekend arrested a gang of suspected criminals comprising mainly of young men and some women from their hideout, deep in the Tanji forest reserved for bird watching. According to sources, the Navy conducted a raid on the beach leading to the arrest and discovery of the criminals and their sanctuary in the forest. Eyewitnesses told The Standard that the gang members numbered about a dozen including women who cook for the group in the forest. The Navy also seized numerous weapons such as knives and other tools they used to commit violent crimes as well as cooking utensils. An official source added that the gang has been handed over to the Anti- Crime Unit of the Gambia police force for further investigations.
