The chief executive officer of the Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency has said that the persistent Nawec problem is now a national emergency.
Speaking at a press conference organised by his office with some Belgium investors at GIEPA house yesterday, Assan Faal said all the stakeholders in government are very concern about the energy situation.
“The energy issue especially NAWEC is a national emergency now and government, GIEPA and NAWEC must especially realise that, but I can assure you there are measures that are put in place to address it,” he promised.
“There are negotiations on the issue with multiple international companies for both long and short-term solutions.”
He said these negotiations have been going on for a while just to ensure that they come to a conclusion on how they can possibly solve problem.
He also disclosed that one of the generators in Kotu will soon begin operation.
