OJ not among Agric 3 to be prosecuted

Gambian police have charged one former and a current permanent secretaries and another official at the Ministry of Agriculture in connection with the scandal at the ministry a year ago. However, Omar Jallow, the minister at the time, has not been named among the three who are to be prosecuted.

Former permanent secretary Sait Drammeh and current permanent secretary Hassan Jallow and Ismaila Bojang, a procurement officer at the Project Coordination Unit of the ministry have been charged with neglect of official duty and conspiracy to commit misdemeanour, police spokesperson told The Standard yesterday.
AG Tambadou Tuesday told journalists that the charges against the officials were recommended by his office.
The arrest and charges are in connection with the selling of an obsolete fertiliser in state custody.

One Modou Dibba was contracted for the disposal of thousands of bags of obsolete fertiliser by the ministry.
Tambadou told journalists on Tuesday that their recommendation for prosecution of three people was referred to the police about three months ago.
